A Simple Idea. A Bigger Purpose.

What began as a celebration of Vern Glenn's connection to Bay Area sports and community has grown into a tradition of bringing people together and giving back.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

It Started With an Idea

In early 2024, a conversation at Chicago II Barbershop in San Francisco sparked an idea. Joe Da Barber wanted to celebrate Vern Glenn's decades of sports journalism and service to the Bay Area. The vision was simple: bring people together through golf, great company, and a shared commitment to giving back.

That idea became the inaugural Vern Glenn Invitational on July 29, 2024, at Sequoyah Country Club in Oakland. With 160 golfers and another 220 guests joining for dinner and the auction, the first event brought that vision to life.

In 2025, the Invitational moved to Marin Country Club, bringing the celebration closer to the community Vern calls home. Though the event continues to evolve, its purpose remains the same: create meaningful experiences, strengthen connections, and make a difference.

MEET VERN

The Man Behind the Invitational

For decades, Vern Glenn has been a familiar face in Bay Area sports, bringing energy, personality, and a genuine passion for storytelling to local television.

Known as "Mr. Involvement," Vern has never been one to simply report from the sidelines. Whether he's stepping into the ring, taking on a new athletic challenge, or sharing the stories of local sports legends, his enthusiasm and willingness to jump into the action have made him a beloved part of the Bay Area sports community.

A five-time Emmy Award winner and 2020 Silver Circle honoree, Vern has built a career on connecting with people through sports.
